ABOUT HELMET CERTIFICATIONS:
CPSC certification is a standard for bicycle helmets from the
Consumer Products Safety Commission - it requires manufacturers
to meet or exceed ssafety standards that include a two meter drop test for a single impact helmet.
ASTM certification is a standard devised for skateboarding helmets
from the American Society for Testing and Materials. The standard is
different and the drop test requirement is one meter, not two
(like for CPSC), but the ASTM F-1492 standard requires *multiple*
impacts to the same helmet. CPSC is only for one impact, so CPSC
helmets must be replaced after every single impact. ASTM helmets
are different but the papers that come in the helmet will say the safety factor. |
