We recommend that you talk to your teammates and ask to try their skates on (before practice!). They may also have advice for you about they're favorite wheels on your practice track. But we can also help, so call or email us with your measurement.

TAKE AN ACCURATE MEASUREMENT:
Riedell Boot Size Chart
Riedell Boot Chart
Please measure your foot:
1. At the end of the day (feet often swell up to a size and a half!)
2. In socks (whatever type you wear to practice)
3. Standing with your weight on your foot
4. Consider up to half size larger for Ankle braces and/or insoles
5. Measure WIDTH by putting a tape measure all the way around the widest part of your foot, where your toes meet.

* HINT: put the ruler on the floor against the wall and then your heel against the wall, too, so you're measuring from the farthest point back on your foot, rather than where your heel touches the ground *

All skates we carry are in MEN'S American sizes.

Generally speaking, US men-sized skates run about a size to a size and half larger than US female shoe sizes. But shoe sizes aren't a reliable way to choose, because fit is very important. Most people wear their shoes looser than an ideal skate fit. And hardly anyone wears the same shoes for years under the stressful conditions they put their feet in when they're skating. Fit is in the eye of the beholder, but generally, you want your NEW skates to be as snug as you can get them without feeling your toes curling at the end. Too-tight skates hurt and can injure the small bones in your feet (sometimes permanently) - and too loose skates lead to blisters, callouses and pain.

Really well-fitting skates may take time to break in comfortably. But after the break in period, well-fitting skates do NOT give you blisters or callouses. It can be difficult to get a perfect fit off the shelf. But hopefully this advice can help!

More advice directly from Riedell:

  • The 125, 395, 595, 695 can all be custom-made in a wide width (for an additional $50), allowing 3 weeks for production & delivery. The factory only stocks mediums.
  • The 125, 395, 595, 695 can also be *stretched* close to a wide width (for an additional $15 and a day on the stretcher), with more success than Torqs because they are made with higher-grade leather.
  • If you order a ½ size larger in a skate, it will feel like a wide due to the longer length.
  • 122, 125, 195, 595 & 695 Riedell boots are made on the "248" last (foot shape). If you measure standing, in socks, and round up to the nearest size, this stick is pretty accurate.
  • 265, 395, 811, 911 and 951 boots are made on the "395" last, which has a larger toebox. This makes them feel wider, so many skaters will wear a half size *smaller* (because they feel bigger) in these boots than the one built on the 248 last.
